Litografiets motiv er tegnet på den andre av Gaimards ekspedisjoner med korvetten La Recherche til Island. Ekspedisjonens mål var en utførlig vitenskapelig undersøkelse av Islands folk og natur. Bildene fra Island har etter sin utgivelse blitt en sentral del av Islandsk kulturhistorie.*** Two small tears on the marges. Plate no. 62 from "Atlas historique" in Joseph Paul Gaimard`s "Voyage en Islande et au Groenland".The motive of the litho was drawn on the second of Gaimard´s expeditions with the corvette La Recherche to Iceland. The goal of the expedition was a complete scientific survey of the Icelandic people and nature. The pictures of Iceland have after their publication formed a central part of the Icelandic cultural history.
