Bildene fra Island har etter sin utgivelse blitt en sentral del av Islandsk kulturhistorie.*** Plate no. 74 from "Atlas historique" in Joseph Paul Gaimard`s "Voyage en Islande et au Groenland".The motive of the litho was drawn on the second of Gaimard´s expeditions with the corvette La Recherche to Iceland. The goal of the expedition was a complete scientific survey of the Icelandic people and nature. The pictures of Iceland have after their publication formed a central part of the Icelandic cultural history.
