GEDICCUS [GEDIK], SIMON. Defensio sexus muliebris, opposita futilissimæ disputationi recens editæ, qua suppresso authoris & typographi nomine blasphemè contenditur, mulieres homines non esse. Leipzig, imprimebat Michael Lantzenberger, 1595. 4to. A1-H3 (62) pp. Pagination with ink. Initials in ink on title, a few ink markings in margins. Bound together with: Disputatio nova contra mulieres, qua probatur eas homnes non esse. Anno M. C. XCV. No place, (1595?). 4to. A1-C3 (24) pp. Rather closely cut. Number in ink on title. Worn later (19th century) half calf with spine label of red leather. ¶ Brunet II, 759, note. Graesse, II, 409, note. Gediccus, a Lutheran scholar, wrote his Defensio in response to the second work, which tried to prove that women were not human. The latter work has been attributed to a Valens Acidalius, though this seems highly unsure. Both works were printed in many editions and translations, often bound together as here, or incorporated in the same edition.
