One of the copies in the Royal Library contains 26 plates. The extra plate is named " Cansler Planberg". It is (probably) never seen in other copies. Brown half calf. Tile at the spine. The Bellman portrait is - as often - losely laid in and somewhat larger than the book. Quite worn binding. Joints partly cracked. Lower part of spine loose. Loss of board paper along the edges. Bumped and damaged corners. Tittle and fly leaves with some brown spots. Some finger dirt in the plate margins. 6 plates with a brown spot in the right margin. A couple of plates with some browning in the corners. 2 plates with a minor tear in the margin. 1 plate with minor loss in the lower margin. The images are in very nice condition. No browning or foxing. ¶ These beautiful and entertaining plates depicts characters from Carl Michael Bellmans songs. Many of them drunk. These images are the best illustrations ever executed to the classic works by the 18th century swedish poet and artist. Bellman was a master of spirituallity and also a close friend of the swedish king Gustavus III. To this day, Bellman is a cultural icon in Sweden. The book is scarce since many copies of the book have been broken, due to popularity of the plates for framing.
