BERG, JOH. AUG. Sverige framstäldt i taflor. Nittiosex litografier i tontryck. Med beskrifvande text af Joh. Aug. Berg. Ph. Mag. Only edition. Götheborg. D. F. Bonniers Förlag. 1850-1855. Large oblong 4:o. Half title + title + contents + 96 text leaves in double columns + 96 tinted lithographs. 24 original wrappers each containing 4 plates and text. The last wrapper also contains the title, the half title and the contents leaf. Twentyfour original wrappers with printed titles at the fronts. The first and last wrapper with some small loss, creases and a couple of tears. Four wrapper has split spines. Some wrappers with partly split spines. One wrapper with a 11 cm tear into the front cover. 1 text leaf with a 5 cm tear, but not into the text. The text leaves in the first 8 parts are browned. The rest of the text has occasional spots and browned text pages. Some offsetting at the text from the plates. The plates are clean and brisk. A very nice copy. ¶ To find the work complete in original wrappers such as this copy, is rare. A classic swedish work on topography covering Sweden from north to south, it´s towns and countryside. The largest and most beautiful plate book of it´s time. This work should have had 100 views instead of 96. The publisher, Mr. Bonnier, was never able to get the last four from the artist Hallbeck. He bitterly complains about Hallbecks bad character at the back of the last wrapper.
