SÖDERBERG, GUSTAF: [General af Artilleriet] [Ca. 1826-1828] 11,5 x 9,5 cm. Painting in watercolour and ink. Mounted to a brown paper, with glue in the corners. A small tear in the upper part of the painting. Otherwise in fine condition. ¶ A small painting by Gustaf Söderberg, signed with his initials G. S. This is probably a study to his great plate book on the swedish army "Kongl. Svenska och Norrska Arméens Uniformer" published in 1828. The painting is not an exact original to any of the plates in the work, but has strong similarities to a couple of plates of the artillery. The painting comes from a scrap album with sketches, owned by king Karl XV. Söderberg was an officer, painter, sketch artist and lithographer. He made artistic journeys to Paris and Italy. Later in life he became head of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm.
