CARDON, OSCAR:
Oscar Sveriges och Norriges Arfvprins.

Stockholm. Tryckt hos Joh. Cardon. På Abraham Lundquists förlag. [C.1841-1842] 57 x 44 cm including passe partout. Toned passe partout with speckles and hand painted gilt borders. A few minor damages and spots.
¶ An expertly executed image of Oscar as a child. He became king Oscar II in 1873. Lithographed by Oscar Cardon after a portrait by the danish painter Lars Hansen who stayed for several years in Sweden as a portrait painter. This is an early example of a lithograph from Abraham Lundqvists publishing company. The company was founded in 1838 and still exists today. It is best known for its music publishing in spite of its prolific production of all sorts of lithographs, especially in the 1860s and 70s. For a short time in the early 1840s Johan Cardon owned a printing business, before he concentrated on his artistic work. Rare.
