¶ A classsic swedish travel. The first swedish circumnavigation of the world. in the years 1851-1853. The ship visited among other places San Francisco at the heigt of the gold rush, Hawaii, Rio, Buenos Aires, Valparaiso, The Galapagos, Panama and Tahiti. The ships progress around the world was followed by an excited public through letters published in the swedish newspapers. When the ship returned the publisher of this book, Bonnier, had himself transported to the ship to sign a book contract with the author. This book became a huge success and saved the publishing company from hard times. Many other books followed, and a scientific work on the collections brought to Sweden by the ship was published during the next 50 years, well in to the 20th century.
