¶ Plate CCCLIX either from "Allgemeine Naturgeschichte der fische" published in Berlin 1782-94 or from the french edition, "Ichthyologie ou histoire naturelle des poissons" published 1785 - 1797, also in Berlin. Both editions contains 432 engraved plates in outstanding contemporary hand coloring. The present plate was drawn and colored by Hennig. The plate gives the name of the fish in latin, german and french. An important scientific book published at the height of the enlightment era. Blochs work is known to be the greatest fish book ever published. Bloch attempted to describe all the fish in the known world. 200 species were described for the first time. Scarce.
