A small paper loss in the lower left corner. ¶ Color lithograph showing the planned new parliament building at Helgeandsholmen in central Stockholm. When the parliament was built at the turn of the century it looked quite different to this image. Helgo Zetterval and his companion Aron Johansson submited several plans to a new parliamment building which were all rejected. Zettervall resigned in protest and Johansson finished the plans alone. Zettervall was a controversial architect who among other things rebuilt the cathedrals in Uppsala, Lund, Linköping Skara, Strängnäs and Kalmar. These projects have been much discussed. Rudolf Witting was a gifted artist - one of the best in his generation - but poor and to proud to ask for help which unfortunately lead to lack of success. Rumours say that he was gunned down and died in the far american west in the early 1900s. Scarce.
