A beautiful unity of portraits of the grandsons of the Sun King Louis XVI. The concept behind the set is to place the portraits of Philippe (who later became king of Spain) and Charles, both looking towards right, so they in their gestures (Charles points with his towards right with his right hand) emphasizes the importance of Louis to the far right, who is the heir of the French throne. Louis, however, died in 1712, three years before his grandfather, leaving the throne to his young son, Louis XV. The frames of A and C are identical.
