LITTLE ROSY'S PICTURE-BOOK. Seeley, Jackson, and Halliday, London 1870. 1st edition. 4°. [24] leaves. With twenty-four coloured illustrations by Lorenz Frölich. Orig. decorative red cloth with some damage to the upper headband. A few leaves somewhat foxed. Name on the inner side. Rare. ¶ The Danish artist, Lorens Frølich (1820-1908), has illustrated numerous beloved Danish childrens books. One of his major achivements was in 1862 when he was given the task to carry on the illustrations of Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales after Vilh. Pedersen which made him world famous. Frølich also illustrated many French childrens books. He was the reason why a French picture book for children was called »un Frölich«. It is hard to say whether »Little Rosy's Picture-Book« is the only English children's book Frølich has illustrated, but it is most likely.
