Containing 51 fine engraved plates (33,5x49 cm.)., of which 5 are in double-folio. Internally fine with a few brownspots, mainly in margins. The last 8 plates stained in lower right corner, only affecting margins. (Stanislas Léveillé and Monvoisin del. - Adam sculp.). ¶ This great book depicts Girard's ambitious waterworks in order to connect the Seine and Ourcq rivers with a ship canal to supply Paris. Girard was one of Napoleon's expert engineers on the Egypt-Expedition and from 1802 until 1820 he was occupied with this project. Along with the work he made importent investigations in hydraulics and published several works on the subject.
