CALLIMACHUS. (-CALLIMACHOS). Hymni (cum suis scholiis Græcis) & Epigrammata. Eiusdem Poematium De coma Berenices, à Catullo Versum. Nicodemi Frischlini Baligensis interpretationes duæ Hymnorum: una, oratione soluta: altera, carmine. Eiusde interpretatio Epigramatu, & Annotationes in Hymnos. Henrici Stephani partim Emendationes partim Annotationes in quosdam Hymnorum locos... (Geneve), Henricus Stephanus, 1577. 4to. Nice later full vellum, back gilt, leather title-label on back (ca. 1700). Woodcut title-vignette. Old stamp erased from title-page (ca. 4 x 3 cm.), affecting 2 letters, last leaf w. wormholes, not affecting text, occationally a bit brownspotted. (16), 72, 134 pp. ¶ Rare and ealy edition with the first printing of 33 Greek epigrams. This edition by Henri Estienne with the Greek text has been of great importance ever since it came. An edition without the 33 mentioned epigrams was printed in 1566. "The first of these editons..., in which very little pains were taken with the text of the author... The second edition (i.e. this edition) of H. Stephen has been pronounced to be the FIRST CRITICAL edition of Callimachus... In this edition the thirty-three epigrams, and some fragments in Latin verse, first appeared, which gave rise to further publications of epigrams of a similar nature. The text... has been followed by almost every subsequent editor." (Dibdin, p. 368). "Bonne édition, où l'on a imprimé pour la première fois une partie des épigrammes et des fragments de Callimaque." (Brunet, I:1480). Text in Greek and Latin, containing the Greek text with Greek scholia and Frischlinus' version in Latin.
