Between 1821 and 1823 Sabine carried out pendulum measurements on the intertropical coasts of Africa and Americas, and also up the eastern coast of Greenland with Captain Clavering on Parry's ship the Griper. His results were first published here and represented the most accurate assessment of the Earth that had ever been made.
