"This has been sent me/ by a mistake, I hope you have/ already got the proofs of it./ Many thanks for Your kind/ letter. I look forward to see You/ in September./ You must excuse that the / printing of your Gaps (?) has/ taken such a long time, but/ there have been difficulties with/ the prints as the head man has/ been ill and has now died./ Kindest regards/ Yous sincerely/ Fritjof Nansen." On verso if this leaf is written a few lines about Franz Josef Land, where Nansen wintered from August 1895 to May 1896. ¶ Letters from this highly important polar explorer, Fridthjof Nansen, are rare. Nansen is the author of "Farthest North" (PMM 384),and in 1895 he reached the farthest north attitude attained by man. He becamme a very important politician, he is the diviser of the "Nansen Passport" in aid of the Russian refugees, and in 1922 he received the Nobel Prize.
