VALÉRY, PAUL: Cahier B 1910. Paris; Gallimard, 1930. 119, (2) pp. Blue half leather (Gustaf Hedberg, Stockholm) with 5 raised bands and gilt compartments, marbled boards and endpapers, gilt top edge. Both covers and spine strip preserved. No. 552 of 4000 copies printed on Blanc Alfa. Inscribed by the author to Harald Wiens. With the recipient's bookplate on front paste-down, and his monogram on front board. Head of spine very slightly rubbed. A very fine copy. An early excerpt from the notebooks of Valéry, which he filled throughout his life, inspired by da Vinci. Many entries contain observations on the creative processes, which he felt was more important than the result, the poem itself.
