(GALT, JOHN) - FRYKMAN, ERIK: John Galt´s Scottish Stories 1820-1823. Uppsala; A.-B. Lundequistska Bokhandeln, 1959. Diss. Frontispiece, 239 (1) pp. Original printed wrappers. Unopened. Very fine. Presentation copy inscribed by the author to Professor Carl Fehrman. ¶ There exists no exhaustive treatment of the books that he wrote during a few years of hectic activity in the early eighteen-twenties, the only period in which he created works with any claims to real artistic merit. The present study is an attempt to investigate the themes and narrative methods of the stories of this period. I have, however, ignored the later of his first two historical novels, both published in 1823, and I have paid no more than slight attention to some ephemeral stories from this time. (preface).
