Kjøbenhavn, Wahlske Boghandlings Forlag, 1823. 8vo. In red gift binding with gilt ornamentation to boarders of boards. With Schlegel's 9 line presentation-inscription to front free end-paper. Spine with sunning and small paper-label to upper part of spine. A fine and clean copy. (4), 72 pp. Presentation-copy of this early work on the low grain prices as a cause of the general decline in trade. The present copy was given by Schlegel to Niels Juel (1786 – 1875), owner of Valdemar’s Castle from where this copy originates. Schlegel’s introductory essay begins by thanking Hoppe for the translation, thus suggesting the translation was made at Schlegel’s request: “Jag har læst nærværende Skrift med særdeles Interesse, og anseer det derfor for et fortjenstligt Foretagende, at Hr. Kammerherre og Hofjægermester von Hoppe, har søgt at gjøre det bekjendt for det danske Publicum ved en troe Oversættelse.” The original German has not been identified.
