“That the true cause of the conflict was the antagonism between the spirit of Federalism and the theory of ‘States’ Rights’ is very clearly explained in the following pages, and the author exactly expresses the feeling with which most Englishmen regard the question of Secession, when he implies that had he been a New Englander he would have fought to the death to preserve the Union, while had he been born in Virginia he would have done as much in defence of a right the South believed inalienable.” (from the introduction).

Norlis Antikvariat

Hjertelig velkommen ! *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** Norlis Antikvariat was established as part of Olaf Norlis Bog- og Papirhandel in 1890 and has been located in Universitetsgaten ever since. The shop is a stone’s throw from Karl Johan – Oslo’s main street, and across the road from the National Gallery. On the ground floor you will find a large selection of art books, books on photography and architecture, as well as fiction in several languages and cultural history. In addition to our growing collection of rare maps and prints, the ground floor also holds books and works suitable as gifts. Our first floor is dominated by history as well as sports and leisure. You will also find local history, books on polar exploration, world war two literature, natural sciences, and more. The first floor also sees a good range of maps, prints and manuscripts. And of course the «Holy of Holies»: the Blue Room with many of our most treasured books. Welcome!
