Head of spine a trifle bumped. Corners slightly worn. A few small specks on the front board. The title-page is torn, a bit soiled, and with a small loss in upper margin. The textpages are very slightly creased. A few plates are slightly soiled, the first one with two scrape marks in the white area. A rather well-preserved copy of a scarce publication. The first edition was published in 1895, and a third edition in 1904.

Dawid tackar för ett paket och uttrycker sig berömmande kring konstnären Jene Highstein, vars ""svarta skiva"" (inbjudningskortet till konstnärens vernissage hos Tornberg) inspirerat honom, vidare hoppas han att de båda kan ses vid Tornbergs nästa besök i Stockholm för att ""titta på lite saker"". Printed on thick grey paper, the book contains poems by Lambert with Bertini's illustrations. No. 55 of 100 printed copies, signed at the colophon by Bertini, and inscribed by Lambert and his wife Åsa to Turkish-Swedish poet and photographer Lütfi Özkök and his wife Anne-Marie. Özkök, who mainly photographed authors and artists, a pair of iconic photos of Samuel Becket, for instance, had photo sessions with Lambert at several occasions, and with Bertini at least once.

With a library discharge stamp, the signature of Swedish architect and classical philologist Carl Georg Brunius (1791-1869), and the signature of his brother August Wilhelm Brunius on front paste-down; also with the signature of an earlier owner (probably Fredrik Hjort, dated 1820), and with Carl Georg Brunius's signature repeated on front free endpaper. The binding is slightly soiled, and there is a small loss at head of spine. Pp. 12-14 and 191/192 have a small chip in outer margin. There are underlinings on pp. 43, 155, 184-185 and 485, and a small note by an early owner on pp. 139 and 141. Small cornerloss on pp. 215/216 and 557/558. There are a few scattered small specks and recurring light dampstains in lower and outer margins, sometimes affecting the text. A well-preserved copy. The German latinist Pareus (1576-1648) published several works on Plautus, among them the first complete edition of his plays. The first edition of his Lexicon was issued in 1614. VD17 23:243062S. One of Myrdal’s classic works, in which he proposes control of the populations, a wider distribution of agricultural land, and expansion of health care and the educational system, in order to achieve development and economical growth in Southeast Asia. It was published simultaneously in hardcover by The Twentieth Century Fund, and in paperback by Pantheon books. Inscribed to professor of orthopedics Gunnar Wiberg (1902-1988) Gunnar Wiberg: ""För Gunnar Wiberg från tillgivne vännen förf."" Wiberg did also receive an inscribed copy of Myrdal's ""An American Dilemma"", in which Myrdal thanks him for excellent care.

Henri Barbusse’s political commitment arises as he volunteers as a private soldier in WWI. After the anti-militarist and anti-fascist writings of the early 1920’s, Barbusse visits Moscow for the first time in 1927, in the commemoration of the Revolution of 1917. In Moscow he writes Élévation, which constitutes a trilogy on a Christian theme together with Jésus (1927) and Les Judas de Jésus (1927). With unabridged political fervour, Barbusse aims at showing the true core of Christ’s experience, as a Revolutionary, judged and chastised by the Church and the State for his Communist belief. Inscribed: “au Dr. E. Hultmark / cordial hommage de l’auteur / Henri Barbusse“. Dr. Emil Hultmark (1872-1943), Swedish art historian, author, and collector.
