Assens / Eks-skolens trykkeri, 1975. Oblong 4to i originalt heftet omslag. (60) side. / On 18th December 1974, the Danish activist theatre group Solvognen brought a small army of Santa Clauses onto the streets of Copenhagen. They paraded through the city, singing songs, handing out sweets and hot chocolate, and asking everyone what they wanted for Christmas. Soon they were all over the place, their apparently naïve attempts to spread generosity and question greed causing scenes in supermarkets, banks, factories, schools and police stations - and ultimately in court, after the week-long performance culminated in a mass handout of presents directly from the shelves of Copenhagen's biggest department store. Solvognen was an activist theatre group associated with the autonomous neighbourhood of Christiania in Copenhagen. They wrote, produced and performed many large-scale performance/actions throughout the 1970s, including the NATO Army (1973), the Santa Claus Army (1974), the Animal Army (1975), and the Rebild Action (1976). Very rare original edition fom 1975.

CEZANNE, Paul. - Lloyd, Christopher:
Kirkegaards Antikvariat
kir57824
Los Angeles: J. Paul Getty Museum, 2015. 8vo. Publishers hardcover, with protected dustjacket. 320 pages, with 198 color and 28 b/w illustrations. Fine clean attractive copy. 1st edition. "Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) was one of the most influential artists of his day, producing work derived from “the most acute sensibility at grips with the most searching rationality” according to his friend, the writer Joachim Gasquet. Honoring tradition while also challenging it, his example made possible the advances of numerous younger artists such as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Georges Braque, thereby paving the way for the emergence of modern art. Cézanne’s novel approach was evident as much in his drawings and watercolors as in his oil paintings. While the hundreds of drawings that the artist left behind in his sketchbooks confirm the centrality of this medium to his artistic practice, his watercolors from the 1890s were undertaken as works of art in their own right. These latter efforts—most of them landscapes and still lifes executed in Provence in the South of France—rank among the finest achievements in this difficult medium from any period. This beautifully illustrated volume traces the development of Cézanne’s style through his works on paper. Diverse in subject matter and execution, his drawings and watercolors include copies of other masters’ works, studies of his immediate family and their domestic surroundings, and preliminary ideas for finished compositions. They reveal Cézanne as someone deeply committed to devising a process for comprehending and recording the world as he saw it. The result is some of the most absorbing art ever created.

Schulz-Dornburg, Ursula:
Kirkegaards Antikvariat
kir49480
Cologne: Studio DuMont Buchverlag, 1978. Large squarish 4to hardcover with dustjacket. Unpaginated with app. 80 photographs and an introductory text by Rudolf Knubel in German. Excellent fine attractive copy. First edition. Beautiful photobook in great graphic design by Tünn Konnerding. Ursula Schulz-Dornburg is exploring with camera and though her book publications the complex bonds between landscape and human civilization, exploring the construction of power though the built environment and its inevitable impermanence. By looking back at areas of past historical or political importance her images highlight how conflict, destruction, time and decay transforms the landscape. Many of Schulz-Dornburg’s projects derive from a relatively confined geographic location, encompassing ancient civilizations alongside areas of modern strategic importance. Historically referred to as both a gateway and a cross roads, or the ‘land in-between’, the area was often defined not by its content but by what lies on either side, between Europe and Asia, east and west, old and new. Over a thirty-year period, Schulz-Dornburg travelled to this region, visiting Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Documenting ruins of the now abandoned Ottoman railway project in Saudi Arabia, decaying Soviet era bus stops in Armenia, and temporary marsh dwellings in Mesopotamia. Most recently, in 2010, she travelled to Syria to photograph the ancient city of Palmyra. Her images now form some of the last visual documentation of the area prior to its recent destruction. For this present book Ursula Schulz-Dornburg was visiting Pagan city in Burma 1976 - now Bagan, Myanmar - , where she was photographing the holy temples, both in their landscape form and inside. Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar. From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Pagan Kingdom, the first kingdom that unified the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom's height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2,200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day. - A very tentative, beautiful book.

Abraham, Anders:
Kirkegaards Antikvariat
kir49165
Copenhagen: Arkitektens Forlag, 2015. Large 4to in publishers original stiff wrappers. 600 pages, 574 images. Text in English. As new, unused copy. Abraham explores nine architectural conditions: stain, field stone, grate, crosstail, falling & rising stain, night scale, ghost frame, vessel and liquid mass. These conditions are understood as accumulations of varying forces of specific character and are not contingent on scale . Materiality and space are privileged while form is variable. Abraham’s project maps those things that are at the cusp of intuition: that spatial knowledge which is sometimes felt but rarely recognized. He draws on a tradition whose lineage connects John Hejduk and Peter Eisenman: a kind of analysis of the sensible, a taking apart of space as a felt condition. The work reflects the influence of other sources as well including the material and physical sensibility of Richard Serra’s early work and the narrative de-centering of Alain Robbe-Grillet. Completed as a doctoral dissertation at the School of Architecture of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, A New Nature draws on Abraham’s time as a Visiting Scholar at Cranbrook, his teaching and research at the Royal Academy and work from his eponymous architectural practice. Together, the assemblage of drawings, sketches, models, photographs and writings positions architecture between memory and materiality, reframing spatial experience as a confluence of conditions that are at once unseen and ever-present. FIRST EDITION.
