Kirkegaards Antikvariat
kir55629
Copenhagen: Forlaget Rhodos, 1969. Original paper boards as issued. Unpaginated. Only minor wear to edges, and overall a very good, clean above average well preserved copy. More photos available upon request. Largely unknown 60s hip artist book by Danish photographer Flemming Arnholm and poet Klaus Rifbjerg: 'Fotografier og digte fra New York' ('Photographs and poems from New York'). Poems by Rifbjerg (in Danish) and photographs in black and white by Arnholm. Young photographer Flemming Arnholm went to New York in 1968 where he wrote articles and reviews on photography for a Danish photo magazine. In New York he met and interviewed Richard Avedon, Karsh, Irving Penn and other star photographers and during that period he shot the photos for this book. The book was arranged by Michael Malling (who did several outstanding and award winning graphic designs for books published by Rhodos) and the result was a highly unusual photo book object, a 2-way folded 'leporello' or accordion-book (it can be folded and placed in various ways) containing very fine photographs from New York late 1960's. It was chosen as one the 28 most important Danish photo books for the catalogue and exhibition '28 Danish Photographic Books' (2006) in connection with exhibition 'The Open Book' by The Hasselblad Centre (2004). The book unfolds in different ways and directions: one of the central panels unfolds vertically whereas the lateral panels unfold horizontally, allowing for different combination and juxtaposition of pictures. The panels can also be unfolded in ways that allow the book to take different geometric forms and to become a photobook-sculpture. First (and only) edition.

Kirkegaards Antikvariat
kir59743
Leipzig: Theosophisches Verlagshaus, 1908. Bound with the original front cover in a very good private full cloth with gilt title to spine (see photos). (First London: The Theosophical Publishing Society 1902). VIII, 151 pages, complete with all the stunning color plates. Light soiling to front cover and binding but not significant and in all a very attractive well preserved copy. More photos available upon request. Man Visible and Invisible; aus dem Englischen von A. V. Ulrich. Die 1. Auflage / 1st German printing. Besant and Leadbeater had great influence on contemporary thought and artists like Hilma af Klint and Kandinsky, their performances and publications were important factors that led to the "genius opening of new perspectives for painting" and Yeats, Eliot, Malevich, Kandinsky, Mondrian and many others were charmed by Theosophy. In the first decades of the twentieth century, it was a widespread "component of Western cultural life". Leadbeater and his partners played an intriguing role in shaping a beginning global culture that could weave together East and West, mysticism and rationalism, sound and sight. In recent years these publications has seen a great revival, partly among younger artists looking for alternative innovative visual languages, but as well as celebrity artists for the Völkisch Movement and other backward longing extreme right movements. For believers it is considered one of the foundational works of modern aura research. Leadbeater not only describes the immediate aura of the human body, but his perspective goes further. He describes the higher bodies of the human being, the development of psychic abilities and their expression in the aura, and the maturation of individuality up to the "Master of Wisdom." The development of life and consciousness is impressively illustrated with many large-format plates. A unique original copy on the subtle bodies of the human being. Very rare, no copy in the German National Library.

The books in this selection are The and Times of Little Richard by Charles White, SHOUT - Ther Beatles in their Generation by Philip Norman, The Complete Book of Salads, Yoga Self-Taught by Andre Van Lysebeth, and Teddy Bare - The Last of the Kennedy Clan by Zad Rust. Enclosed are 3 bookmarks signed in hand by Pruitt a piece of paper with a handmade "drawing" by Pruitt and a recipy handwritten (by Pruitt maybe). More photos available upon request. Original item from "Rob Pruitt's bookclub". For a while around 10 years ago, every day Rob Pruitt would sell a selection of his books from his personal collection online or as part of his "art sales". Each book was stamped with a bookmark indicating that it comes from his 'Bookclub collection". "Rob Pruitt was born in Washington D.C. in 1964 and studied at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington D.C. and Parsons School of Design in New York. He lives and works in New York. Since the early 1990s, Rob Pruitt’s risk-taking investigations into American popular culture have taken many forms. From his notorious Cocaine Buffet (1998) and glitter portraits of Pandas or the significant Suicide Paintings series, Pruitt’s works are a surreal and extravagant interpretation of the pop world, a kaleidoscopic look towards mass culture by exploring the multiples aspects and the paradoxes of our present time". - "appropriation of similes, once strictly the providence of kitsch, has nothing to do with blurring the distinctions between high and low. Instead, rainbows and butterflies have come to symbolize a magical new world where order is without hierarchies, edification is without snobbishness, prosperity is without greed, and most importantly, where imagination and consumption are exceedingly valued. This is the world of Rob Pruitt. Pruitt acts as a conduit, shuffling images from mass culture to high art production. He also subscribes to the empowering and inventive 'do-it-yourself' attitude of visual design and art making".

København, Akademisk Arkitektforening by Chr. Cato 1929. Stort format (23,5 x 31,5 cm or app 9 x 12 inches). Original omslag. Lidt slitage ved ryg og rifter i kanten af omslag og lidt alderspletter men i øvrigt ren og meget velbevaret. Komplet. 1st printing. Very rare item indeed - some foxing and minor small tears to cover edge and wear to spine but solid. Overall very good copy, well preserved and clean inside. "Ib Andersen (Danish, 1907-1969) was barely out of school when he designed the poster, which also adorns the cover of the present original catalogue, to promote the 1929 exhibition of Buildings and Homes in Copenhagen, Denmark. The exhibition was a significant one, as it featured a built model of the “House of the Future,” as designed by Arne Jacobsen (Danish, 1902-71) and Flemming Lassen (Danish, 1902-1984). While the single-family “House of the Future” was among the most impactful presentations of the exhibition, it was just one of many proposed dwellings on display. Andersen’s poster featured a more generic illustration of urban apartment buildings instead of any particular exhibited project. The image, nods to two significant movements of the avant-garde: a Bauhaus inspired cityscape is punctuated by the primary color palette of the de Stijl school. While Andersen trained as an architect, he found his calling in the graphic arts. He continued to create posters and other advertisements throughout his career. However, from the mid-1920s until 1960, Andersen produced regular illustrations for Politiken, the leading Danish daily newspaper, and it was through this work that he established himself as a household name" (Caitlin Condell). This copy comes from the collection of Danish architect Kay Fisker but is not signed. Kay Fisker was onme of the main architects behind the exhibition. More photos available upon request!

La Tour Eiffel og La Villette, Paris Self-Published, 1986 - 1987. 4to, staddle stiched offset. Text in English, with plans and drawings. Some edgewear and discoloring to edges. "Marianne for an Eiffel tower in space", installation, 1986. Project with explanations and drawing. Eric Andersen has been a pioneer in the field of performance art, installation and InterMedia and was one of the founders of the Fluxus network in 1962. Since 1960 he participated in over 500 events and exhibitions all over the world. He developed an interest in intermedia art very early on (as from 1959). In his Opus works from the early 60s, he investigated primarily the open interaction between performer and audience. In November 1962, for the first time, he participated in a Fluxus concert at the Festum Fluxorum in the Nikolai Kirke, Copenhagen, and in subsequent years he was involved in a number of Fluxus festivals and actions. From 1962 to 1966, he cooperated closely with Arthur Köpcke. In the late 1960s, Andersen was active in Mail Art, and since the 1970s he has devoted much of his work to an investigation of geographical space.

London: Unit Editions, 2017, First RED Edition (From original Kickstarter campaign). Large oversized very heavy hardcover with jacket. 385 pages, richly illustrated. First edition - . From Foreword: "Time is slippery stuff. Over 30 years have passed since the first issue of Octavo was delivered to various London bookshops and mailed out to subscribers in grey card envelopes. Thirty years seems a reasonable distance to look back on a project with considered perspective, to establish the context, motivations and conditions under which it began, and to evaluate its merits and influence. Sincere thanks go to my former 8vo studio colleagues Mark Holt and Hamish Muir for putting this book together, and to our friends at Unit Editions for their belief in the importance of Octavo, and the decision to publish this volume as well as reprint all issues of the journal at 1:1 scale. Octavo Redux 1:1 gives students and those who have never seen the magazine the chance to view the whole series, along with a lot of background information and initial handmade design studies. It was never the intention that copies of Octavo would become collectors' items or be hard to find: the modest 16 pages plus cover and three-colour (+varnish) print specifications of the first issue attest to this. But it is heartening to consider that what started as a conversation in a pub in 1984, with my suggestion to Mark that we start a magazine, came to fruition and has had some life...". 3 page stapled typed plan to "Lose Weight The 'Satchmo' Way by Lucille Armstrong & Louis Armstrong, signed "Satcmo / Louis Armstrong" with blue fountain pen on the first page. 8.5 x 11 inches (21.5 x 28 cm). Well stained copy. Forget about Novo Nordisk products, try Swiss Kriss. The 20th Century west with its strong focus on profit maximation and efficiency also saw the beginning an obsession with control of the body and weight loss - a phenomenon that is still raging. Amphetamine pills for everyone, despite strong side effects like anxiety, paranoia, irritability, and sleep disturbances, if you could stay up and perform and look model looking thin. Louis Armstrong had anxiety problems and eating a lot of food was one of the ways (along with smoking Marihuana) to calm himself down and he soon got a weight problem. He found the "Swiss Kriss" product, used it, got addicted to it and started advocating the use of this laxative to control weight. He would publish his ideas in a book called Lose Weight the Satchmo Way, and also appeared in advertisements for his favorite herbal laxative, Swiss Kriss. John Lennon and Mick Jagger were later regular user of the Swiss Kriss. In this manuscript, Satchmo describes a regimen of regular meals supplemented by orange juice and Swiss Kriss: "The more you shit / the thinner you'll git / no shit."
