The methods of treatment are partly chemical, partly magnetical, even such modern ideas as suggestion and other mental treatments are proposed.” (Duveen.) Sebastian Wirdig (1613-1687) from Torgau in Saxony, was a physician and professor in Rostock. His theories are based on the belief in two types of spirits. The spirits of the human body, which make up the soul and reside in the blood, and the spirits of the air (heat and cold) with whom the spirits of the body combine and thus cause illnesses. In addition, he also develops a theory of magnetism. Magnetic attraction exists not only between heavenly and worldly bodies, but also between all living things. These spirits and magnetism can be influenced in various ways, includning alchemical treatments and talismans.
