. An account of Jean Francois Gamba (1763-1833), French Consul at Tiflis, describing his journey along the Black Sea littoral and into the Caucaus. Provenance: Gösta Nobel (1886-1955). Gösta Nobel was the youngest son of Ludvig and Edla Nobel. He took over as Branobel`s Managing Director at the time of the Russian Revolution, and had to flee Russia in 1918. Branobel or The Nobel Brothers Petroleum Company was founded by Robert and Ludvig Nobel in Baku in 1876.

Three maps with marginal repairs. Some foxing as usual, but overall a clean and well preserved copy of the earliest printed Danish atlas. Provenence: Bertel Bartholin (1614-1690). Danish professor and son of Caspar Bartholin, inscription dated Haffniæ 1666, and later Traugott Møller’s collection.. .

Contemporary full vellum with old title in ink on spine. Covers and spine with some worming. An old label in Italien pasted on front endpaper. Dampstained in places, mostly marginal, affecting the 6 woodcut illustrations. The map with minor foxing, but overall in excellent condition. First obtainable printed account of Russia, published in Italian one year after the Latin edition from 1549, Rerum Moscoviticarum Commentarii. The Latin edition is almost unobtainable. . .

Halle & Leipzig 1769. Folio. 200 nature-printed plates in colour. Modern calf with six raised bands. Gilt spine. Plates only, lacking title and text. A rare nature-printed book. The plant itself was used, instead of woodblock or engraved copperplate. After the specimens were arranged, they were covered with dark dust, and the outlines thus formed on the paper were coloured by hand. . . Nissen 1252

Han var en fremragende general, ingeniør og tegner, og leverte selv de fleste av forleggene til kobberstikkene. Dahlberg (1625-1703) enjoyed a distinguished military career and oversaw Charles X `s extensive fortification programme. Suecia antiqua et hodierna is in the same vein as Merian`s Topographia Gallia, and Dahlberg travelled throughout Sweden to capture the principal towns, buildings, and monuments.

Title, dedication leaf and plate No 1, with minor marginal tears, otherwise in fine condition.Fredrik Henrik af Chapman (9 September 1721 in Gothenburg – 19 August 1808) was a Swedish shipbuilder, scientist and officer in the Swedish navy. He was also manager of the Karlskrona shipyard 1782–1793. In 1765 Chapman applied for permission from his work as a chief naval builder for the Archipelago Fleet at the naval base at Sveaborg to work on Architectura Navalis Mercatoria, a collection of contemporary ship types that he considered to be the best and most interesting. The work had been commissioned by Duke Charles, the brother of king Gustav and was published in 1768. The book contained 62 illustrations of ships and smaller vessels, both Swedish and foreign designs. Some of these were Chapman's own designs, but many were also types that he had seen during visits to foreign countries. Everything from large warships to small fishing vessels were represented.. . .
