First edition. A pioneering study and acclaim of steel and ferroconcrete construction in modern French architecture. Giedion questions the very idea of an architecture with definitive boundaries - if it is to survive at all, it must break out of the limits imposed on it by tradition and by its functioning as an institution. This ideology is exemplified with illustrations from the work of Perret, Garnier, Le Corbusier, Mallet-Stevens, Sauvage, Guevrekian, Lurçat, and others.

Last two leaves truncated in outer margin without loss of text. Former owner's name on title page. Saarinen's plan for the extension of Helsinki by the foundation of the satellite community Munkkiniemi-Haaga. Saarinen's most extensive town planning scheme, it is extremely thorough and comprises - in addition to the carefully drawn plan - a detailed study of the townscape with models and designs for a variety of building types. The scheme got a wide publicity but before realisation had begun, the state of economy changed radically and only fragments of the plan were realised.

Bound in one sturdy full leather binding (Nordiska Bokhandelns bokbinderi), a fine copy. A complete one-volume issue of the illustrated inventory of Swedish upper-class furniture from the 16th-19th centuries in the Nordic Museum collection, including index of cabinet-makers and other artisans. The three parts published in three parts 1931-1935, here re-issued in 1947 in one volume with the first part in an new edition, and provided with a main title leaf to the volume. A standard reference work on the subject.

Publisher's half black leather with red gilt-lettered cloth boards, top edge gilt, very fine. No. 201 of 300 numbered copies. First edition of this early book by the Viennese Expressionist poet (1886-1950) who first published his works in Karl Kraus's 'Die Fackel' and Herwart Walden's 'Der Sturm'. His first book 'Tubutsch" was illustrated by Ehrenstein's close friend Oskar Kokoschka; the present work is adorned only with the frontispiece portrait from a lithograph by Kokoschka.

Catalogue Raisonné, with a biographical essay, of the engraved works of Georg Friedrich Schmidt (1712-1775), the appointed engraver to Frederick II in Berlin, who was summoned to Saint Petersburg in 1775 by the Empress Elizabeth to engrave her portrait and to organise a school of engraving. A translation of a work first published in French, revised and extended by the translator.
