A photographic documentation of elaborately ornamental ironwork executed by Émile Robert mainly in Art Nouveau style, including gates, canopies, railings, balusters, shopfronts, showcases, lamps, etc. Some work composed by Robert but mostly by other French architects and designers including Lalique, Prouvé, Georges Chedanne, Henri Sauvage & Charles Sarrazin, Lucien Magne, etc.

Boards darkened and rubbed at extremities, endpapers and first/last leaves browned, plates fine albeit lightly foxed in margins. The Scottish painter and engraver John Burnet (1784-1868) published a number of works on the techniques and aesthetics of painting. The present work forms the first part of his Treatise on Painting which was published both as a whole and as four separate books.

Gift inscription on half-title page; light unobtrusive foxing to endpapers and opposite pages; otherwise fine. No. 933 of an edition limited to 3000 copies. Massive official large-format documentation of the Universal exhibition held in Brussels in 1935. The Belgian architect Joseph van Neck was the principal architect of the fair and of the Art Deco Palais des Expositions, Victor Bourgeois, designed the Grand Palace, the Leopold II Restaurant and the Soprocol Pavilion; among the foreign contributors were Le Corbusier who designed part of the French exhibit.

The trio was among the founders of the Reflex / Groupe Expérimental Hollandais which joined forces with Danish and Belgian artists in November, 1948 to form the international CoBrA group, which held its first exhibition 13-27 March, 1949 in Bruxelles.
